Six Elements of Entertaiment
As consumers search out bargains in entertainment by shopping on eBay, Craigslist or exchanging music through iTunes or MP3 swapping with friends online, the record, film and entertainment industries are experiencing a major economic turn around. However, consumers are also embracing independent recording artists, producers and filmmakers who are using the latest technology to create their own work for consumption by their audiences.
Entertaiment is defined by six elements, according to Bates and Ferri (2010). It is understood objectively, encompasses communication between text and audience, offers pleasure, requires an audience and occurs in a passive form. It hits on themes that the brain was evolved to respond deeply to, such as backstabbing and murders in a social world.
