What Is Fashion?

Fashion

Fashion is a style or practice of dress and appearance that reflects a particular period in time. It can also be defined as a general trend in dress and appearance that is popular amongst the population at large. Fashion may also refer to the prevailing customs, traditions, practices or beliefs of a culture.

A person’s fashion taste can communicate a great deal about him or her. For example, the clothes someone wears can reveal their age, social class, occupation and even their mood. Often, fashion trends are set by celebrities or other people in the public eye that have high influence over the masses. It is not uncommon for people to imitate the clothing styles of these individuals, as they are perceived as a source of inspiration.

It is generally believed that changes in fashion reflect societal change, as well as the financial interests of designers and manufacturers. However, recent research suggests that there are other factors at play.

If you are in the process of finding your own personal style, try to focus on pieces that are versatile. For instance, a leather skirt might scream edgy but can easily be worn with a cashmere sweater to create a more feminine look. Try mixing up textures and colors as well. Juxtaposing leather with velvet or silk can add a sense of drama and intrigue to an outfit, while pairing a metallic shoe with a natural-colored boot can make the outfit feel fresh and contemporary.
