What is Fashion?

Fashion is a way of dressing that expresses one’s personal style. It is influenced by cultural factors, but also by social events and trends. Fashion is also a way of showing off a person’s status or wealth.

In addition to clothing, there are also fashions in shoes and accessories. The term “fashion” can also be used to refer to a particular era or time period, such as the Art Deco fashion of the 1920s, or the Heian period Japanese fashion of the 14th century. It is often considered that changes in fashion reflect societal changes, but it has been suggested that shifts are largely driven by the desire for profit by designers and retailers. This desire for profit can exploit and encourage materialistic consumerism, which is detrimental to society.

It is thought that a person’s dress reflects their inner self, and this is particularly true in the adolescent period, when people experiment with different styles to find out who they are. It is therefore important to understand that not all fashionable styles are suitable for everyone, and it’s also good to have a few classic pieces that you can keep in your wardrobe.

Fashions can vary greatly within a society, depending on age, social class, generation, occupation, and geography. People who slavishly follow current fashions are often called “fashionistas” or “fashion victims”. Fashion trends are expected to repeat themselves every 20 years, so it is not uncommon for a fading style to reappear at a later date.
